Discover London with Taylor Swift

They say home is where the heart is… but, God, I love the English!

I bet you already knew that London is one of the most sought after destinations by travelers and students. But did you know that there are several songs in honor of the English capital? And you don't even have to be British to love the city! American singer Taylor Swift has declared all her love for London in her song “London Boy”. Come with us to know more about the places mentioned by the artist, in a route that goes from north to south of the metropolis:

  • Camden Market

"I enjoy walking Camden Market in the afternoon

One of the most famous places in London, the market is located in the Camden district, considered one of the most vibrant and alternative in the city. Despite being known for its history with rock and punk in the 1980s, Camden Market is a hit with tourists and locals alike because it caters to all tribes. As the song says, the handicraft fair is a really cool walk to do in the afternoon!

A curiosity: it was in this area of London that great English punk rock bands emerged in the 1970s and 1980s, such as the Sex Pistols and The Clash. More recently, one of the most distinguished residents of the neighborhood was singer Amy Winehouse.

  • highgate

"Took me back to Highgate, met all of his best mates

Highgate, on the other hand, is no longer a touristy or well-known point in London. We are talking about a residential neighborhood, located further north of the city. With many green areas, the walk can be a breath of the hustle of the center of the capital!

  • west end

"And now I love high tea, stories from uni and the West End…

Continuing our journey through London, Taylor mentions the West End, famous for its bustling bohemian life. The region is traditionally known for its many theatres, bars and restaurants. In addition to being vibrant and very busy, the neighborhood also has important art galleries and museums. In Trafalgar Square is the famous National Gallery, where you can find works by artists such as Van Gogh.

  • Brixton and Shoreditch

"I enjoy nights in Brixton, Shoreditch in the afternoon

Considered young and irreverent districts, Brixton and Shoreditch are known as symbols of London modernization.

Shoreditch, closer to the center of the city, began to house more and more young people from the turn of the millennium. In recent years, the neighborhood has become a reference for culture and art. You can even find Banksy graffiti on the streets of the area.

Brixton, on the other hand, is a little further away from the more central points of London. The neighborhood is located to the south of the city and is traditionally inhabited by immigrants, mainly of Afro-Caribbean origin. Multicultural and modern, it has very interesting options of innovative markets and restaurants.

Fun fact: Iconic artist David Bowie was born in the Brixton neighborhood, where a memorial in his honor is now found.

  • soho

"I enjoy walking Soho, drinking in the afternoon

Located in the West End, the Soho district is famous for its wide range of entertainment, dining and shopping. Vibrant and energetic, there is no shortage of places to visit – from traditional British pubs to independent and funky music stores. For this district (and other regions of London as well) the tip is to do as the music suggests, go for a walk and get to know every detail!

  • Hackney and Bond Street

"So please show me Hackney, don't have to be Louis V up on Bond Street

Famous for its designer stores, Bond Street is the main luxury shopping street in the West End. Home to brands such as the aforementioned Louis Vuitton, we are talking about a region with renowned designer stores. Due to this fame and its location in the West End, the street attracts a lot of tourists.

On the other hand, Hackney is a little less known neighborhood when we think of London. Despite this, it has several options of restaurants, cafes, pubs, independent shops, street art and green spaces. Shoreditch, previously mentioned district, is part of this neighborhood of the city!

We went from north to south, from tourist spots to residential neighborhoods, and this is just a taste of London from the music. London Boy. You can check where each location is in this little map
