University of Leeds visits Brazil with news. Meet institution

UK University of the Year 2017 (Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide), Top 10 for research strength (Research Excellence Framework 2014), Founding Member of the Russell Group and one of the universities with the widest range of courses in the UK (over 600), the University of Leeds has almost 200 years of excellence in research and teaching.

Located in Leeds, in the north of England, the traditional university is the fifth largest in the United Kingdom, with a population of 33,000 students, and most of its courses and departments are listed among the best in the world, such as the areas of Business, Engineering, Science and Communication. Leeds Business School has “Triple Crown” accreditation – when it achieves three demanding accreditations: AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS – and is among the rare 1% of universities with this type of registration in the world.

The university has been home to great names such as former Secretary of State Jack Straw, NASA astronaut Piers Sellers and six Nobel Prize winners. Leeds is currently ranked third in the world in the world. Times Higher Student Experience, a survey that analyses the opinions and experiences of students at all British universities, with high marks for facilities, campus atmosphere and extra-curricular activities.

Speaking of experiences, this is the institution with the best results, among the members of the Russell Group, in intensive research and its graduate students are among the 20 most sought after in the world by employers (QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2016).

The exchange student, now in her second semester in the United Kingdom, says that the approach of the classes she attends was a pleasant surprise. “The university has a wide variety of subjects and I came into contact with areas of contemporary performance that I had never studied before. Each professor has a different specialty and in a single semester I studied Performance Politics, Performance Design and Intercultural Storytelling.”

Leeds prides itself on being a university that offers a wide range of unusual specialist subjects and courses, such as Colour Chemistry, Fire Science, Nanotechnology and Aviation Technology.

This tradition, coupled with excellence in research, generates an avalanche of applications every year. In 2016, Leeds received more than 50,000 applications for undergraduate courses, making it the fourth British institution with the highest volume of applications.

Next week, the loveUK receives a visit from Scarlett Armstrong, International Officer at the University of Leeds, who will participate in a series of events to tell you all about undergraduate, master's, doctoral and summer courses, as well as answer questions, give tips on applying and show you what university life is like.

“We’re looking for students who have good grades but have also researched the university and know why Leeds is a good choice for them. We have a lively campus close to the city centre, so we’re looking for students who want to work hard, while also enjoying their time in the UK, getting involved in our many social events and interacting with other students in one of the most diverse international student populations in the UK,” says the International Officer.

On the day April 12th, 12:30 pmArmstrong will be participating, together with loveUK and our guest partner, Estudar Fora, in a Facebook Live on loveUK's own page, where he will talk about life in Leeds, the courses offered and opportunities for Brazilians. At the end of the conversation, there will be time to answer questions from internet users.

The University of Leeds currently has 40 Brazilian students, distributed across undergraduate courses, English courses and semester-long programs. The university seeks to increase this number each year, demonstrating great interest in the country. “We want our Brazilian students to encourage their friends to become part of our international community,” says Armstrong.
