Applications for the Newton Fund are open to Brazilians, a program that promotes doctoral scholarships in the United Kingdom for academics specializing in the areas of engineering and health.
Focused on researchers who are in the middle phase of their careers, the program is an initiative of the British government that aims to promote the social and economic development of emerging partner countries, through a fund to promote research, science and technology.
Launched in Brazil by the British Minister of Finance in 2014, the fund intends to invest £45 million in the country by 2019 as part of the UK's commitment to the international community to promote initiatives that strengthen the social and economic development of emerging countries and help to establish lasting partnerships with government and philanthropic institutions.
The fund is carried out through four consortia, made up of the following organisations: British Council and HE International; the Academy of Medical Sciences, British Academy, Unit, Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) and Royal Society; Innovate UK (TSB) and Met Office; and Research Councils UK.
