Have you ever thought about having a constantly updated list on your cell phone with several available scholarships, according to your academic profile, universities of interest and application deadlines? It seems like a dream, but the British Myles Jardine, only 21 years old, decided to make this idea a reality by creating the app GrantFairy, a scholarship search engine for universities across the UK, available for download on iOS, Android and web version.

Although he managed to get a place at the desired university, Myles decided not to enroll for fear of the costs he would have to pay to do so. “Like all my friends, I applied to a university at the end of my high school year, but the fees and tuition increased annually and I figured I would end up graduating with very high debt, taking into account housing costs.”
“I had no idea there were other sources of funding available besides student loans. In fact, there are thousands of scholarships, grants and other types of funding to help students pay their tuition and living expenses. The problem is that these are very little publicized and it can be extremely difficult to find information about relevant opportunities”, continues the Briton.

It was out of personal frustration at not being able to fund the university on his own and a lack of knowledge of funding options that Myles decided to create GrantFairy. In a simple way to handle, the application does all the work for you: just enter some information such as university you want to enter, course, country of origin and you instantly match the scholarships available especially for your profile.
“Education is a valuable gift, but the financial burden of student loans and the associated worry of debt is clearly something we would all rather be free from.”
According to a survey carried out this year by the organization Which? university, 60% of students currently at British universities have never applied for a scholarship and/or did not know they were eligible to receive one.
