Is it possible to get a master's degree at one of the best universities in the UK?

Are you considering a postgraduate degree in the UK? You've probably heard of the Russell Group, which brings together some of the UK's oldest, most prestigious and highest-ranking universities, forming an elite group in British education, on par with the US Ivy League.

Founded in 1994, the Russell Group currently has 17 universities. At the moment, loveUK works with six of them: Durham University, University of Leeds, University of Liverpool, University of Glasgow, University of Birmingham and Queen's University Belfast.

What does the Russell Group really do?

The Russell Group is not necessarily defined by university rankings. Its true purpose is to bring together the best universities for scientific research and academic research in order to produce and pass on courses of excellence to the greatest number of national and international students.

But what does that really mean? Well, for masters and doctoral degrees, that can mean a lot. The Russell Group produces nearly twice as much scientific research compared to other UK universities and attracts over three quarters of UK government funding.

Are loveUK partner universities in the Russell Group really good?

In terms of ranking and research, Russell Group universities consistently rank in the top 150 in the world. According to Times Higher Education, the University of Glasgow ranks as the 88th best in the world, Durham University ranked 96th.

For the master's and doctorate, the research ranking is done by course. Here you can check by the university which course within our partners is the best placed.

And is it possible to enter Russell Group universities and get a scholarship*?

The statistics don't lie: Russell Group universities are very good at attracting research funding, directly benefiting graduate students. What's more, the chances of getting into universities are real: with the evaluation of documents and review of your process, loveUK helps you in this step for free.

This is particularly significant at the doctoral level, where Russell Group members have access to Research Council funding for doctoral training, through the British government, making most programs fully funded. Masters students can also benefit from partial scholarships, which can range from £1,000 to £10,000 depending on the program and date of application.
