20 Films Shot at British Universities That You Maybe Didn't Know

We know that film production in locations, including universities, across the UK is high (the University of Oxford, for example, has become one of the favorite places to visit for Harry Potter fans) and, for the lucky few, being a student while filming your campus can even result in an extra. Wherever you go, you feel like you've seen that scene before – and it's probably been on a movie screen.

We list 20 films shot in some of the partner universities of the loveUK. Did you manage to identify them all when you watched? Check out!

The Sainsbury Center for Visual Arts, an art gallery and museum on the university's campus, located in Norwich, England, was adopted as the headquarters of the Avengers, the Marvel saga, ensuring its appearance in other films of the brand. The building appears in Ant Man (2015), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).

In 2015, for the filming of Avengers, the production secretly hired college students to do the extras, using the code afterparty (After party) to post announcements across campus.

King's College London

The Maughan Library, the university's library, has been the setting for several films, such as Johnny English (2003) and Imitation game (2014) – when Keira Knightley's character is recruited for the Enigma project. In this same place, part of the clip was filmed Twilight's Chapter Seven, from the album Still Fantasy, by Taiwanese Jay Chou.

In 2009 the university acquired the east wing of Somerset House, one of London's most iconic buildings and the setting for scenes in two James Bond films: golden eye (1995), when Wade's car breaks down, and A New Day to Die (1997). Also in this location was filmed the duchess (2008), The legend of the headless Knight (1999) and Sherlock Holmes (2009).

Although it does not belong to King's College London, the now abandoned Strand (or Aldwych) tube station is known as part of the university's landscape. It filmed scenes of v for Vendetta (2006), extreme love (2008) and Desire and Atonement (2007).

University of Bristol

The university's campus served as the setting for British productions such as Boy Note 10 (2006) - which shows the institution's School of Chemistry -, Living in Hope (2002) – British comedy where the setting of the University of Bristol became the Cabot University - and The Inbetweeners 2 (2014) – where you can see campus facilities right at the beginning of the film.

University of Glasgow

Contrary to what many think, the University of Glasgow did not film Harry Potter, but more classic films from the 60s and 70s, as well as more current ones, such as American Cousins (2003), 2012 – The Year of Prophecy (2008), God Help the Girl (2014) and Straightjacket (2005).
