11 short courses to experience university life in the UK

Another factor that will leave you dying to play a short course is the easy access for Brazilians. Unlike graduation, it is not necessary to pass a university or apply for a student visa, as classes last a maximum of 24 weeks. Goldsmiths University of London

1.Musical Theater Summer School Practical theater classes for young people from 12 years old who like dancing, singing, acting and musicals. The course is led by professionals from the theater industry, who teach international musical theater techniques and help students discover their own artistic potential. The student will have classes in London for two weeks (August 5th to 18th), with all expenses included and the right to tickets to great shows.

2.Curating the Contemporary Ideal course for people interested in the professional field of curating. Classes offer an opportunity to engage intensely with curating contemporary art, getting to know its different modes of action. The duration is two weeks and classes start on the first day of July. 3.Introducing to Python – Data Analysis and Programming In this course, the student will be introduced to programming using Python, a versatile and easy-to-learn computational language. The goal is to enable the student to create useful Python programs, use the language for more advanced data analysis, and understand complex Python programs. The course lasts five days and can be taken in July or August.

4.Anthropology and Art: Museums, Galleries and Globalization This course challenges traditional Western value systems by exploring diverse cultures and their artistic expressions. Here, the student develops an anthropological understanding of art in each society, becoming able to apply learning to multiple everyday scenarios. The duration is ten weeks, with two hours of class per day, and will start on 10/03.

University of Kent

5.Urban Ethnography (Paris) Despite being British, the University of Kent offers innovative and immersive classes in Paris for summer school participants. In this course, students will explore the rhythm of life in the city, its religious and cultural differences and Parisian multisensory ethnography. The duration is one week, from July 7th to July 14th!

University of the Arts London

6.Technical Fashion Drawing in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop With extremely practical classes for eight days, the course teaches how to create drawings and sketches using Adobe programs. Despite being techniques aimed at creating clothes and collections, it is not necessary to be a Fashion student to participate in the course – it is only required that the student has basic notions of Photoshop and Illustrator tools. Classes can be taken in December 2019 or March 2020.

7. Visual Merchandising and Display (Online) This one is for those who want to take a short course at a great British university, but are short on money to cover travel expenses. Classes take place remotely for six weeks (between July 4th and August 8th) and focus on visually improving products, aiming to delight customers and maximize sales. Some sessions will be live and there will be weekly proficiency tests.

English courses

In addition to short courses on varied and super interesting topics, some partner universities of the loveUK offer English courses for foreign students interested in learning the language through intensive classes, combined with an immersion experience.

THE University of the Arts London, mentioned earlier, offers the English Plus Courses, which consist of learning English combined with another area of knowledge, such as art, fashion, media, cinema, among others. Here are four UAL courses that allow you to improve both your language skills and your skills in other areas of interest.

1.English Plus Art and Design Lasting between four weeks and 6 months, depending on the student's preference, the course seeks to develop the student's English while subjecting him to practical and theoretical classes on art and design. In this way, in addition to taking classes on the language, the student is also able to learn the vocabulary used in the professional field of art, as well as the production techniques in this area.

2.English Plus Film Making In two weeks, you can improve your English and introduce yourself to learning filmmaking on this super-innovative blended course. Classes vary between theory and practice, and include the development of skills related to film production, equipment use and video editing. Classes will start on July 29th.

3.English Plus Art, Architecture and Interior Design Lasting four weeks, this course combines English and architecture in an attempt to teach how artists and designers have contemplated London's buildings, interiors and treasures in their work. The student will be taught to use their knowledge and research to understand the relationship of art, architecture and design to British history – all while improving the language! Classes start on July 29th.

4.English Plus Graphic Design Classes on this course begin in July, lasting four weeks, and introduce the student to British graphic design, illustration and typography techniques. While learning and improving the English language, the student will be able to carry out great works and research in the field of contemporary design.
